Lisa Dawn Pruitt-Thorner is a partner at the Catlettsburg, Kentucky law firm of Pruitt & Thorner. She received her B.A. degree in 1990 from the University of Kentucky and her law degree from Chase Law School (Northern Kentucky University) in 1994. She is licensed to practice in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and was admitted to the bar in October, 1994. She concentrates her practice in the areas of personal injury, wrongful death, eminent domain, corporations and family law.
She has been a member of the Kentucky Academy of Trial Attorneys (KATA) since 1991 and is also a member of the ABA, KBA, ATLA, and the Kentucky Youth Advocates. She is the founder and president of the Tri-State Womens Law Caucus in Ashland, Kentucky. Lisa is admitted to practice in the Commonwealth of Kentucky and before the U.S. District Court, Eastern District of Kentucky. She is author of Tavern Liability for the Intentional or Violent Acts of Third Parties - Proving Forseeability , Kata Advocate, Volume 23, Number 1, January/February 1996. She and her father, Garis, spoke at a KATA seminar together in March, 2000 on the topic of PowerPoint presentations and the high-tech courtroom. In 2003 Lisa presented a Family Law seminar during the Kentucky Academy of Trial Attorneys annual convention. Ms. Pruitt-Thorner is heavily involved in the community and volunteers a large amount of time to such organizations and charities as the Boyd County Fair, Tri-State Hepatitis Foundation, Red River Climbing Coalition, Rockcastle Karst Conservancy and other land conservancies. She is a member of the Fairview Baptist Church, Ashland, Kentucky. Ms. Pruitt-Thorner donates many hours of pro-bono practice to the North East Kentucky Legal Service. She also donates time and legal experience to chapters/grottos of the National Speleological Society and has assisted at authoring brochures on landowner relations and drafting waivers for various organizations. While away from the office, she enjoys caving, running, trail running, hiking, camping, rock climbing, writing, photography and reading. She is a member of the National Speleological Society and the Louisville, Greater Cincinnati and Esso Grottos. She is a Rockcastle Karst Conservancy Board Member. She has edited and published a cookbook on behalf of the ESSO Grotto and she was elected editor of the Greater Cincinnati Grotto’s newsletter The Electric Courier in 1996 and 1997. Ms. Pruitt-Thorner is currently serving as librarian of the ESSO Grotto.
